For part of the consideration money, Nicholas Whelan gave his note to Thomas Crowley, and "Crowley has since assigned the note to Maurice Cribbon, on which a suit was filed in the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia." Now the parties have compromised and agreed to drop the suit, and Thomas Crowley, in consideration of $1.00 paid to him by Nicholas Whelan, sells to Nicholas Whelan the Negro girl and all of her issue and progeny. Signed on 18 April 1808 by Thomas Crowley with an "X."
