This Deed Executed this 30th of September 1812 between Levin Caulk of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina of the one part and Hance McCain of the County and State aforesaid of the other part whenceforth that whereas the said Levin Caulk Stand, Lawfully Indebted to Robert Lindsay Morehand of the County and State aforesaid Namely in the Sum of Two and Fifty four Dollars Twenty two Cents $254:22 Money of the United States and being desirous to Secure to him the Same with the Interest arising thereon in Consideration whereof and the Sum of five Shillings to him in hand paid by the Hance McCain he the said Levin Caulk hath Bargained Sold and Delivered and by these presents doth Bargain Sell and Deliver his Negro Girl Slave Named Charity to the said Hance McCain his Heirs deceased in Trust and for the following uses and purposes that is to Say that if the said Levin Caulk Shall fail to pay the said Sum of Two Hundred and fifty four Dollars Twenty Two Cents $254:22 with Lawfull Interest from the Date of this Deed it Shall be lawfull for the said Hance McCain his Heirs deceased after going Ten days publick notice to Sell and Dispose of for Ready Money the aforesaid Negroe girl Slave Charity. And to pay the Money so Raised to the said Robert Lindsay his Heirs or so much as well be sufficient to Satisfy the before mentioned Debt and Interest and the Remainder if any their be Shall be Returned to the Said Levin Caulk after Deducting the Cost of Sale and Shall the said Levin Caulk pay to the said Robert Lindsay his Heirs and the said Sum of Two hundred and fifty four Dollars Twenty two Cents with Interest as aforesaid on or Before the first of August Next ensuing the Date of this deed then and in that cost this Deed Shall become Void and of No Effect or otherwise remain in full force and Virtue in Testimony whereof the Said Levin Caulk hath hereunto set his hand and seal this 30th of September 1812.
