Thomas Bevill to William C. Love for the use of Robert Lindsay. This deed executed this sixth day of January 1812 between Thomas Bevill of the one part of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina and William C. Love of the county of Rowan and state aforementioned the other part whenceforth that whereas the stated Thomas Bevill stand, lawfully indebted to Robert Lindsay merchant of the county of Guilford and state aforesaid namely in the sum of $184:19 money of the United States and being desirous to secure to him the same with the lawfull interest thereon in consideration whereof and the sum of five shillings to him paid by the stated William C. Love by the stated Thomas Bevill bargained sold and delivered and by these presents doth bargain sell and deliver his Negro girl slave Ester to the said William C. Love his heirs and assigns in trust and for the following uses and purposes that is to say that if the said Thomas Bevill shall fail to pay the stated sum of one hundred and eighty four dollars and nineteen cents with interest from the Date of this deed it shall be lawful for the stated William C. Love his heirs or any other person duly authorized by him for that purpose after giving Ten days public notice, to sell and dispose of for ready (?) money that aforesaid Negro girl Ester and to pay the money so raised to the stated Robert Lindsay or so much thereof as will be sufficient to satisfy the before mentioned debt and interest and the remainder if any shall be returned to the stated Thomas Bevill after deducting the costs of sale and attorneys fee and shall the stated Thomas Bevill pay to the Stated Robert Lindsay his heirs the said sum of $184.19 with interest on or before the first of May next ensuring the date of this Deed with the interest and then and in that case this Deed shall be said cease and become void or otherwise remain in full force and virtue in testimony whereof the stated Thomas Bevill hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written.
