This indenture made this eighth day of January one thousand eight hundred and eighteen between Shadrach Allen of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina of the one part and AC Carmon (Trustee) of said county of the other part whereas said Alen is indebted to the firm of Brown and Thompson of the same county by bond bearing date with these presents the sum of three hundred dollars and is willing to secure and pay the same with interest now. This indenture witnesseth that the said Allen in consideration of the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said Carmon before the execution of this indenture the receipt is hereby acknowledged hath given rated sold and by these presents doth give grant bargain and sell unto the said Carmon his heirs and assigns the following property (To wet) one negro man named Same Alan on tract of land lying on the waters of Reedy Fork in the county aforesaid Guilford containing two two hundred and twenty acres joining the land of Peter summers and others which all the right and title claim and interest of him the said Alen of and into the said Property and all singular appurtenances whereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to have and to hold the said property unto him the said Carmon his heirs and assigns for ever and the said Allen for him his heirs executors administrators do covenant and agree with the said Carmon his heirs and assigns that he the said Allen is secured possessed of the said property aforesaid in fee simple and may legally sell and convey the same and that the said Carmon his heirs and assigns shall and may Quietly and peaceably possess and enjoy the said property appertaining against the lawfull claim or claims of all and every other person or persons whatsoever in trust never the less that the said Carmon shall at any time after the first day of July next ensuing of the request of said Allen or said Brown and Thompson sell at publick sale having first given notice twenty days of such the aforesaid property and all of the proceeds thereof pay and discharge the debt and interest aforesaid and such cost as shall occur therein he the said Brown and Thompson and the over plash if any to the said Allen it is understood and agreed that the said Alen shall pay the said money before the first day of July next aforesaid that this deed shall be null and void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue in witness whereof the said Allen hath set his hand and seal the day and year first aforesaid written. }
