Know all men by these presents that we Benjamin Allen and Shadrach Allen both of the County of Guilford and in the State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to us in hand paid by Jesse Thompson of the County and State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivering of these presents the Receipt whereof we the said Benjamin Allen and Shadrach Allen doth hereby acknowledge have granted and bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver unto stated Jesse Thompson his heirs and assigns a certain Negro man slave during life called and known by the name of Tony about the age of thirty years and we the stated Benjamin Allen and Shadrach Allen for ourselves heirs and assigns doth covenant and agree to and with said Jesse Thompson his heirs and assigns that the right and title to the stated negro Tony we will warrant and for ever defend from our selves, our heirs, and assigns and from every other other person claiming or to claim and we the stated Benjamin Allen and Shadrach Allen hath put the said Jesse Thompson in full possession by delivering to him the said negro Tony at the sealing and delivering of these presents. In witness whereof we the stated Benjamin Allen and Shadrack Allen hath hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this first day of April Eighteen Hundred and Eighteen.
