Know all men by these presents that I Patty Pegram of the county of Guilford and state of north Carolina doth bargain and sell until Elijah McDaniel of the State of Kentucky, Jefferson County one negro girl named Chain aged twenty four years for the sum of four hundred dollars to have and to hold the sold negro girl Chain and her increase free from the Claim or claims of me, my heirs, executors, or any other person or persons whatsoever receiving and excepting the right or claim of my daughter Polly McDaniel and of Reuben McDaniel of the State of Ohio who's claim said McDaniel is acquitted with and known at the time of purchase and is to obtain and cow her at his own risk in witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal seventeenth day of July one thousand eight hundred and eighteen (1818).
