Know all men by these presents that I Jesse Gibson of Guilford County in the State of North Carolina do hereby bargain sell and dispose off my black girl Asenath my wifes daughter to James Clemmons of said County for and in consideration of the sum of twenty dollars to me in hand paid the receipt whereof I the said Jesse Gibson do hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell the said Asenath to the said James Clemmons his heirs and assigns for ever for eight years off and from all incumbrances whatsoever against me my heirs and assigns and against all other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of February in the year of our lord on thousand eight hundred and twenty one.
