Know all men by these presents greetings that I, James Dick of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina, for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have for my son John M Dick and for his advancement and better settlement in life and for diverse other good causes and consideration, me thereunto moving have given and granted by these presents. Do give and grant unto my son John M Dick My negro boy Solomon to have and to hold the Sd. Negro boy Solomon to the said John M Dick his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever and I the said James Dick for myself, my executors and administrators the said negro boy Solomon to the Sd. John M Dick his executors, administrators, and assigns will forever warrant and defend against myself or any person claiming by or through me and I the said James Dick have put the negro boy Solomon into the possession of the said John M Dick. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 15th day of January AD 1823
