Know all men by these presents that whereas on the Petition of of Daniel Curry to the Honorable the Superior Court of Law held in and for the County of Guilford at the Court house in Greensboro on the fourth Monday after the fourth Monday in September AD 1823 their was a decree of said Court that the said Daniel Curry should have liberty and License to emancipate and set free his negro slave Sam arguably to the provisions of the act of assembly in such case made and provided now know you therefore that I the said Daniel Curry of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina by virtue permission and in pursuance of the decree of said Court do by these these presents grant and secure to the said Samuel Curry the aforesaid negro slave his liberty and freedom as a free man of color. Investing him with all the rights privileges and immunities with which a free man of color may or can by Law be invested and enjoy warranting the same unto the said Samuel Curry against myself my heirs and all person or persons whatsoever who may or can claim by through or under me. In testimony whereof I the said Daniel Curry have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 20th day of November AD 1823.
