Know all men by these presents that I William Armfield Sheriff of the County of Guilford in the State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and sixty one dollars to me in hand by John Wiley of said County the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge hath given granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do give grant bargain sell and deliver unto said John Wiley a certain Negro man named Thom it being supposed the property of William Thom taken by virtue of an execution to satisfy a judgment of law and obtained by Abraham Geren Guardian and executors against said Thom and others and I William Armfield Sheriff as aforesaid will warrant and defend the right and title to the said Negro Thom unto said John his heirs and assigns from the lawfull claims of every person claiming or claim so far as shall be my duty as Sheriff aforesaid and no further. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 9th day February 1824.
