This indenture and writing made this third day of July in the year of Christ one thousand eight hundred and twenty four between Sihon Tatum of the county of Guilford and state of North Carolina of the one part and James Johnson of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Sihon Tatum being indebted to John Tatum of the county of Guilford and state aforesaid the sum of sixty dollars by bond bearing date the third day of July 1824 due three months after date with interest thereon until paid and being desirous of securing to the said John Tatum the sd. sum of money as well as the interest thereon up to the time stated above which will soon become close together with the further consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid by the sd. James Johnson the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by the sd. Sihon Tatum hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell, alien and confirm unto the sd. James Johnson one negro boy slave by the name of Izkiah aged ten years to have and to hold the above bargained and sold negro boy slave Izzy to the sd. James Johnson his heirs and representatives forever and the sd. Sihon Tatum for his heirs representatives himself doth hereby warrant and defend the title interest and claim to the sd. negro slave Izekiah to the sd. James Johnson his heirs and representatives forever but the sd. James Johnson is to have and to hold the aforesaid negro boy for the special trust and confidence however that whenever he the sd. James Johnson shall hereafter be requested either by the sd. John Tatum or the Sd. Sihon Tatum (after the expiration of three months from this date to make the aforesaid sum of money together with whatsoever sum or sums of money which may be due and owing from the sd. Sihon Tatum to the Sd. John Tatum at the time such request shall be made that the sd. James Johnson after giving ten days publick notice shall expose to public sale the aforesaid negro slave to Izekiah to the highest bidder for ready money having first advertised the time and place of sale in at least three public places in the neighborhood in the county aforesaid and after having sold the same to the highest and last bidder he the sd. James Johnson shall pay over the proceeds of sd. sale to the sd. John Tatum in satisfaction of his debt aforesaid and in satisfaction of all or any other debts, debts, dues or demands which the sd. Sihon Tatum may justify owe to the sd. John Tatum at or before the sale aforesaid and the balance if any shall be paid by the sd. James Johnson to the sd. Sihon Tatum after deducting all expenses of carrying the deed into effect and if the proceeds of sd. sale shall not be sufficient in amount to satisfy the sd. debts, dues or demands then the sd. James Johnson shall give to the sd. Sihon Tatum credit against the sd. debts, dues or demands to the sd. amount of the proceeds of sd. sale. In testimony whereof the sd.
