This Deed Executed this 26th day of March 1808 between Thomas Godsay of the one part of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina and William C. Love of the County and State afs. [aforesaid] of the other part Witnesseth that whereas the Sd. [said] Thomas Godsay Stands Lawfully Indebted to Robert Lindsay merchant of the County and State afs. [aforesaid] Namely in the Sum of 250 Dollars Money of the United States and being desirous to Secure to him the Same with the Lawfull Interest which may arise thereon in Consideration whereof and the Sum of five shillings to him in hand paid by the Sd. [said] William C. Love he the Sd. [said] Thomas Godsay Bargained Sold and Delivered and by these presents Doth bargain sell and deliver his Negro Woman Chaney and her two children James and Charles to the Sd. [said] William C. Love his heirs and assigns in Trust to and for the following uses and purposes that is to say that if the Said Thomas Godsay Shall fail to pay the Sd. [said] Sum of Two hundred and fifty Dollars with the interest arising thereon from the Date of the Deed on or before the fifteenth of October Next ensuing the Date of this Deed it shall and may be lawfull for the William C. Love his heirs and after giving Ten day public Notice to sell and Dispose of for Ready money the aforesaid Negro woman Chaney and her Children and to pay the money so raised unto the Sd. [said] Robert Lindsay or so much as will be sufficient to satisfy the before mentioned Debt of $250 with the interest arising thereon and the Remainder if any their shall be returned to the Sd. [said] Thomas Godsay after deducting the attorneys fee.
