John Elms has gotten himself financially entangled with several people, a combination of securities for a guardianship bond, pending lawsuits and actual debts. In this document, Elms notes that W.H. Murphy and Ambros Ownby are his securities for his Guardianship of “Eliza Rebecca Murphy, wife of George Ledbetter”. I (the abstractor) think that Elms is authorizing W.H. Murphy and Ambros Ownby to hold title to a parcel of land, “…one negro boy named Tom aged 7 years…”, livestock, tools, crops, etc., and to sell the “property” if necessary to pay Elms’ debts.
