The attorneys of James Deane request that the said Deane be permitted to bring fifteen slaves, "well acquainted with the making of Salt," into the state "for the purpose of carrying on that business on the Sea Coast." They therefore "at the request and in behalf of the said Deane Pray your Honorable body to pass a law empowering the said Deane to Import his negroes into this State."
