John Talbot of Jefferson Count, Virginia, informs the court that he is "entitled by Marriage" to two slaves, a mother and daughter, who are currently part of the estate of his mother-in-law, Jane Gettings of Maryland. Gettings is not willing to sell the slaves, but she is prepared to let her son-in-law take possession of them. Talbot therefore seeks permission from the legislature to bring the two slaves into Virginia.
