Rebecca Rawlings states that "she is now unjustly held in slavery by Washington Wallace," who is currently negotiating her sale to Jesse Dollerhide, a "southern negro trader." Rawlings asserts that "originally she was a slave, but was set free, and afterwards agreed to serve said Washington Wallace for a term of years." Wallace brought Rawlings from Pennsylvania to Washington for the purpose of selling her as a slave for life. Rawlings asks that Wallace and Dollerhide "may be enjoined and commanded not to interrupt or interfere with your oratrix, and not to remove her or cause her to be removed from this District."
