- Salutation: To the honorable the Superior Court of said County & State
Abstract
William H. Gross alleges that Jacob Summerlin "craftily and subtlely intending to defraud your petitioner pretended and asserted that two certain negroes (to wit) a fellow named Abraham and a woman named Nance belonged to him." Summerlin sold them for $1,000 to Gross. However, Gross learned that Abraham and Nance either "were then & there free and not in lawful detention," or they were another man's property. He sues for $1,000 in damages.
