Petition #20682519

Abstract

Charlton Wright and other heirs of the late John Gary petition for the settlement of a dispute regarding Gary's estate. Gary died in 1818, leaving a large estate that included fifteen slaves. Peter V. Gary, executor of said estate for the years 1819 and 1820, worked the land of the deceased with said slaves, producing profitable crops of cotton; in the years 1820 and 1821, he hired out the slaves. Peter Gary was dismissed of his duties as executor in 1823, but the petitioners charge that he has made no report of the financial transactions he administered before that time. They ask that he make such an accounting and that he be compelled to deliver to the heirs of John Gary any money that he is unjustly withholding from them.

Result: Granted.
