        Nicholas Tachaud, "born free from free persons on the island of St. Domingue," claims to have been "unjustly & illegally detained" as a slave by Richard Richardson.  Tachaud asks to be declared a free person and to be placed "provisionally under the custody of the Sheriff" while his case is being decided.
