Abstract
Jean Sifflet presents to the police jury that he has recently purchased, from Victoire Pélagie, a free woman of color, a Creole woman named Marguerite, also known as Congo, under the express condition that he would manumit her. He declares that Marguerite has always been "of good behavior," and "industrious habits," and she is worthy of the reward he wishes to confer upon her. He asks the police jury to permit him to proceed with the necessary formalities for the emancipation.
