Etienne Denan presents to the police jury that he is the owner of a forty-year-old female slave named Francillette, whose long and important services ["de longs et importants services"] and irreproachable conduct he wishes to reward by granting her the enjoyment of freedom as if she had been born free ["afin qu'elle puisse jouir de sa liberté à l'avenir comme une personne née libre"]. He declares that Francillette has always had an honorable conduct ["elle s'est toujours conduite d'une manière honorable"], has never run away ["n'a jamais été marronne"], and has never been guilty of any crime. In addition, he vouches that Francillette is industrious and can therefore provide to her own maintenance. He therefore asks the police jury to grant freedom to Francillette without compelling her to leave the state [Original in French].
