- Court: Police Jury
- Salutation: To the honorable the President and members of the police jury in and for the parish of Orleans
Abstract
Victor Burthe, "dative" testamentary executor for the late Zénon Victor, a free man of color, asks the President and Members of the Police Jury to authorize the emancipation of a fifty-year-old slave, named Gérome. Burthe also asks that Gérome be dispensed with the obligation of leaving the state of Louisiana. Victor Burthe is making this petition in conformance with the deceased's 1835 last will and testament. Burthe vouches that Gérome has always behaved in a "proper manner, has always been respectful towards white persons, has never run away and never rendered himself guilty of any crime and misdemeanor."
