Pierre Follain and Jean Bellocq, merchants operating under the name Follain and Bellocq, seek to collect a debt from François Dormenon, a free man of color. The petitioners represent that "said François Dormenon did at false river the 14th January 1847 draw a draft" for the sum of $88 "payable at the sale of his cotton in favor of Jean Bevin." The petitioners claim that, "relying on the hope of receiving the cotton crop of said Dormenon," they accepted and paid the draft to Bevin though "they had no funds of said Dormenon in hands." Dormenon has yet to "send them his cotton on which account he is responsible to them for the amount of said draft they paid for his honor." Follain and Bellocq further inform the court that Dormenon owes them "for a barrel of flour five dollars seventy five cents” as well as for “a keg of grease three dollars eight cents furnished him by your petitioners." They pray that Dormenon be condemned to pay them the balance of $99.73 plus interest.
