Peter Lebret and William Hearsey, partners "under the style and name of P. Lebret & Hearsey," represent that Henry Connor, a free man of color, is "justly" indebted to them in the sum of $90.97 for various articles "sold and delivered" to him between 4 October and 5 November 1850. They allege that, although "amicable demand" for payment has been made on Connor, the "sum still remains due and unpaid." They claim that, since Connor is about to leave the state "permanently," they have no means to recover their money. They therefore pray that Connor be "ordered adjudged and decreed" to pay the money with interest. They ask that a writ of attachment be issued against his property and a curator appointed to represent him. They also ask that a certain Isaac N. Maynard, who is indebted to Connor in an amount sufficient to cover Connor's debt to them, be made a party "garnishee" to the suit, i.e., be given notice that he cannot dispose of the assets owed Connor.
