Abstract
When James Chalmers was unable to make timely mortgage payments to Nicholas Maccubbin, he agreed to provide Maccubbin with four slaves to use temporarily. Now James Chalmers has died and his son, John Chalmers, seeks the return of the slaves, along with the increase of the females, and a payment of a portion of the profits Maccubbin made from their labor.
