William Durbin Jr. and others charge that their neighbor, John Cover, beat his slave to death. Through examination of the body, a jury determined "the Negro man Came to his Death from the unmerciful Beating and Other ill treatment he Received from his Master." Durbin and the other jurors seek the arrest of Cover who "hath Escaped from Justice But is Supposed to Be Lurking about Gettysburgh in the State of Pensylvania which is about 25 Miles from his Farm."
