Abstract
William D. Merriken owed $794 to Joseph Evans and James Iglehart in April 1823. To secure payment of this debt, he mortgaged four female slaves and assorted livestock to his two creditors. The mortgage, due in 1824, was still unpaid when Merriken died intestate in 1833. Evans and Iglehart ask the court to subpoena Merriken's heirs and to order the mortgaged property sold to settle their claim.
