Petition #21385561

Abstract

Sarah K. Crosland and William A. Crosland, the widow and son of the late Daniel M. Crosland, seek a partition of the intestate's estate. They report that the said Daniel died in 1853, possessed of two tracts of land, twenty-four slaves, and sundry other property. They further state that they obtained "letters of administration on the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the Said intestate" in 1853; shortly thereafter, the Croslands had the estate inventoried and appraised and "sold to the highest bidder the negroes" and all personal property. The petitioners reveal that the said Daniel, during his lifetime, gave "a negro girl" to both Rebecca Crosland Friemon and Ann Eliza Stewart "as advancements to them." The petitioners, "desirous of having and enjoying their shares of the real estate of the Said Daniel M. Crosland in severalty," pray that a partition of said land may be ordered. The Croslands also request that they may "account for their actings and doings" as administrators of said estate.
