- Salutation: To his honor, John W. Nash, judge of the circuit superior court of law and chancery for the town of Petersburg
Abstract
Peter Birchett Jr. of Prince George County seeks the payment for a large debt. He represents that James S. Foley fled to Louisiana with his son William D. Foley, leaving his wife, Anna Foley, in Petersburg with at least four slaves. Birchett charges that the said William sold two slaves in Richmond prior to fleeing, including Dinah, perhaps "the most valuable woman in the whole lot," and a child. Birchett demands that Anna Foley surrender the slaves that remain to the sergeant of Petersburg.
