Daniel Lee states that about twenty-two years ago, "whilst he was a slave," he lived with a slave woman named Harriett. Daniel and Harriet lived happily as man and wife until 1 May 1867. Daniel was working on a farm and Harriett was working as a cook some miles away and "whilst thus away from his immediate eye, she committed adultery." Daniel did not believe the rumors at first and continued to live with Harriett until she told him that she was going to leave him. Daniel and Harriett have not lived together since and now Harriett is about to have a baby. Lee seeks a divorce and custody of his children.
