COMMITTED to the jail of Northampton county, N. C. on the 21st December, 1840, a negro slave, as a runaway, calling himself SYLVESTER. He says he is the property of Alexander Walker, of Augusta, Georgia; that he was raised in Halifax, N. C. and was sold by Mr. Austin of said place, to Mr. Davis of Petersburg, about three years ago. He is about 40 or 45 years of age, dark complexion, is 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, has on common home made clothes.
