Abstract
Harris Hays of Henry County served as an "agent" to halt the spread of smallpox during the epidemic of early 1859. He procured two slaves to work as nurses to treat the sick. One was his own slave; the other was a slave from Florida. He seeks $200 as compensation for the "hire of the said two nurses."
Result: Denied.
