Through marriage, William Ellegood is now the owner of Rachel, a thirty-four-year-old slave.  The Ellegoods, who reside in Laurel Sussex County, Delaware, note that the said Rachel “has a Daughter living at Laurel and is willing to be removed into this State.”  They therefore ask that a law be passed "authorizing &amp; impowering your petitioner to bring the afsd negro Rachel from Worcester County in the state of Maryland into this State and hold her as a Slave."</abstract><subjects><subject>Family separated (Black)</subject><subject>Family kept together (Black)</subject></subjects></petition>
