Maryland resident Jonathan Fooks and others explain that Nancy Fooks, wife of Jonathan, inherited a slave named Simon from her mother, who had lived in Sussex County, Delaware. They pray that a law be passed allowing Jonathan to bring Simon into Maryland. The petitioners add that Simon is "desirous to move thither" as he has "a wife in Maryland within about one mile of the dwelling House of said Jonathan."
