Levi Cathell states that he and his wife, Priscillia, are residents of Worcester County, Maryland, and that they inherited twelve slaves from the estate of James Cannon; the decedent was the Pricilla's father and resided in Sussex County, Delaware. Cathell "is desirous to remove from this state to his farm and Residence in the state of Maryland" all of the slaves "solely for the purpose of imploying the said Negroes in his agricultural pursuits." He therefore prays that a law be passed "authorizing him to Remove the aforesaid Negroes from this state into the state of Maryland and to Retain them as slaves." The twelve slaves are comprised of Leah, her brother Peter, and Leah's ten children.
