John Collins seeks to manumit a slave named Catharine and her child, Dulcinia, according the will of his late brother William B. Collins. A related document reveals that the will directed that Catharine and her daughter be hired for two years after William's death, after which period of time the two women should be freed and the money earned from their hires be given to Catharine after payment of the debts on the estate.
