Abstract
On 14 January 1845, John Smith's slave Maryland was jailed by the judge of the St. Louis criminal court as a witness in the case the State v. G. W. Goode. The black man was released after sixty-three days. Smith claims he suffered "loss and great inconvenience" and asks to be compensated "the usual fees."
Result: Denied.
