John Waite states that he holds "a legal Bill of Sale" for twenty-year-old Charlotte Green, who has petitioned the Legislature for her freedom. Waite expresses that his "consent is hereby given, and it also my request, being desirous that she may be rewarded with the Blessings of Freedom for her Honesty and good Conduct." The petitioner attests that Green "is very able to get her own living, so that it is not probable the State will be ever burthened by your good Intentions." Waite states that it is his "wish that she may be Emancipated by the name of Elizabeth Johnston."
