Abstract
Harry Ash, “a freeman of Colour," represents that he purchased his wife America from Milla Clarke in 1802; in 1803 "his Wife the said America was delivered of a daughter named Jemima." Desirous that his wife and child "should be entitled to the privileges of free persons of Colour," the petitioner prays that the Legislature "Liberate them by the names of America and Jemima Ash."
