Eighty-two "Citizens of the County of Hertford beg leave to state that they entirely concur in the sentiments expressed in the annexes petition of Coloured persons." They represent that "they entertain the same opinion of the impropriety of the Law of the last Session of the Legislature by which slaves are made competent witnesses against free persons of colour in criminal cases." The petitioners "believe that it may in many cases be productive of the most serious mischief."
