Joshua Carmon seeks to free his "slave named Betty aged now upwards of Sixty years." He represents that Betty "has from her childhood been in the family of your Petitioner, and has rendered faithful and willing service and obedience, and likewise meritorious service." Stating that "she is the mother of Seventeen children," Carmon describes said Betty as having a "uniform good and submissive deportment." He therefore prays "that said Betty may be emancipated by your Honorable Body."
