Five citizens of Martin County seek an amendment to a section of "the Revised Code" of North Carolina. They propose "that for the better protection & security of our slave property ... the Revised Code should be so altered and amended that the penalty for selling either directly or indirectly any spiritous Liquors to slaves should be imprisonment for not less than one month or more than six and also a fine of not less than Fifty-dollars or more than Five hundred dollars."
