Five hundred residents of Camden District contend "That a Sufficient check has not been put to the Importation of Negro Slaves, altho it appears evident that has allways thrown the ballance of Trade against, has drained us of our Cash, and prevented the increase of Population, and growth of Manufactures." The petitioners assert that "This is a grievance which we conceive ought to be speedily remedied."
