William McCants seeks compensation for the slave Daniel, who was killed "by the falling of a tree" while working on a public road. Lamenting that he has sustained "heavy damage in the loss” of said slave," McCants trusts in "the liberality of your honorable body" and prays that he will be granted "such relief as in Your Wisdom Shall be thought proper."
