William Fairy recalls that he attempted to apprehend a runaway slave named Jack on 23 May 1807; in the process, "Jack wounded your Petitioner in several places, for which offence he was tried found guilty and executed." Fairy confides that he "is poor and entirely dependent on his own labour for his support and that in consequence of the wounds which he received (from the effect of which he has not yet recovered) he was for a long time confined to his bed, at a time of the year when it was absolutely necessary for him to work his crop." The petitioner prays that his case be taken into consideration and that he be granted "such relief as you may judge proper."
