Joseph Jenkins for the recovery of a slave named Smart. Asserting that said trial was a "sham," he brought suit against several lawyers, the deputy sheriff, and the foreman of the jury; however, the case was not admitted to court and Linen himself was jailed. Having "made my escape," the petitioner "humbly prays that the Judiciary should be brought to Justice in such a manner as you and your wisdom shall direct."
<subjects><subject>Jails/Workhouses</subject><subject>Title dispute (enslaved)</subject></subjects></petition>
