Petition #11381705

Abstract

Samuel Linton represents that he purchased "a few young negroes for his own use" in 1816 "on the Eastern shore of Maryland." Linton recounts that some of said slaves ran away from him on his trip back to South Carolina. He states that among the absconders was a young woman, Sawney, who was picked up in Delaware on her way to Philadelphia, taken back to Maryland, and placed in the "Snowhill jail." He reports that he traveled to Maryland, retrieved his property, which now includes Sawney's infant, and transported them to North Carolina. Returning home, he requests that he be granted leave "to bring in the sd. negro woman Sawney & her infant Child."
