Benjamin Ellis states that he purchased a female slave in Virginia "in July last" and that "on his way home the sd Negro Ran from him so that he was not able to go for her untill after the Act Passed to prohibit the importation of Negros in to this State." Ellis further asserts that "when he went after the sd Negro woman to Virginia he Purchased two other Negro Girls and has Brought them Near the line of this State." The petitioner "wishes Permission to Bring them in for my one Service."
