Abstract

Israel Mathis recounts that he purchased three slaves named Sawney, Sarah and Annaky in Virginia in 1810. He further reports that in 1811 Sawney "did Feloniously Kill and Murder the said Annaky" and that "in Consequence of this misfortune your Petitioner did also in the same year loose the said Sawney." Mathis therefore "prays of your Honorable Body to Grant him such Relief or Aid as in your Wisdom you may think most proper."
