Dr. William Read represents that his slave named Neptune was arrested for a murder that took place in December 1827 and that said slave "was convicted of the aforesaid crime" and sentenced to "be hung by the neck until his body be dead." Avowing that his slave was a "full task hand and of the value of a prime able bodied Slave," the petitioner prays that he be granted "such remuneration for his slave so as aforesaid executed pursuant to Law and the Sentence of the said Court, as is provided for by the Acts of Assembly in such cases."
